This little paperback is the one-look book for performance appraisal feedback. Some books on this topic cover a lot of extra ground, positioning performance management in the executive skill set (Performance Management: Integrating Strategy Execution, Methodologies, Risk, and Analytics), emphasizing performance measurement (Transforming Performance Measurement), or focusing on the organizational context (Five Key Principles of Corporate Performance Management). In contrast, Max and Bacal zero in on how to communicate clearly in performance reviews.The book has three sections. Part one establishes the context for performance feedback, outlining goal setting, documenting performance, and conducting a performance review that is effective and within legal guidelines. The second part contains several sample forms that can be used to capture performance review discussions with employees. The bulk of the book is in part three. This helped me look up and craft performance goals that pleased The Boss, so yay? It's a good reference guide, and there should be one in every office that subscribes to SMART goals and the like, but I wouldn't expect it to rejuvenate an office or actually improve performance, and I wouldn't suggest anyone read it cover-to-cover. It's really just a reference guide. If it's compatible with your office, I suspect it will take some of the stress out of each employee's performance-goal-crafting-process, as well as shave tens of minutes off of the time it takes them to do it.That was my experience, anyway. At times, I've struggled to come up with the right words to describe certain areas of employee performance. This book is so helpful. It's sectioned by topic, making the search for relevant words phrases so much easier to find. I use this for employee evaluations regularly and am super pleased!
Okay phrases, that need a bit of you to make them work. Take note... Find the one book that has the most phrases, purchase it, for there's several others like this that are simply repetitive in editorial.
